Dive, Kayak and Conserve
There is now an active weblog for this expedition at http://gozodyeg.blogspot.com
This water based expedition will involve participants working in groups of between 10 & 20 people in order to take part in three week long activities in August 2006:
One week will be spent learning to scuba dive.
This will involve being trained and assessed for the PADI Open Water Diver qualification.
To complete this you will need to do some classroom work and complete dives in confined and open water environments in the coastal waters around the island.
A second week will be taken up by your participation in an environmental project run by an organisation called BICREF in Ramala Bay on Gozo.
This may involve you in work on dry land on the beach and in the sand dunes of the Bay. You could also be involved in the diving and snorkelling aspects of the organisation’s work.
A third week of the Expedition will involve a sea-kayak circumnavigation of the island of Gozo. During this trip the group will be self supporting, spending several days paddling kayaks in the coastal waters around the island.
All aspects of the expedition will involve the development of teamwork and water based skills.
Cost: £1000 plus flights (approx £250) Inclusive of food, accommodation and insurance.
A partnership expedition with Derbyshire Youth Exploration Society.
